Skype 2.8 Beta for Mac Review

Video quality on Skype 2.8 beta (Mac) was poor

Earlier yesterday I had several video conferences with Skype 2.7 with colleagues. The video was normal as expected and I have never recalled having a problem with video quality. After lunch I updated my Skype to 2.8 beta to test the screen sharing, but noticed and was told by everyone that I video conferenced that my video quality was choppy and poor. I downgraded back to Skype 2.7 and video quality was back to normal.

Screen sharing on Skype 2.8 beta (Mac)

Well I found the screen sharing to be more of show your screen, not share your screen. I had several colleagues install the 2.8 beta so we were all on the same version of Skype. We shared our screen and noticed that you could see the others screen, but not take control of the screen. I guess it’s better then not having the feature, but with iChat you can take control of the screen and provide support easily.

Hopefully the bugs of the video quality and some improvements will be made to the screen sharing by the time the product leaves beta.
