This is a podcast for the Enterprise Leadership show that I host at http://www.enterpriseleadership.org.

It’s a fascinating interview that I wanted to share with my 4WebResults
readers/listeners.

Enjoy

CITIZEN
SCIENTIST
: Podcast
interview with David Anderson, research scientist, principal investigator,
and director of the University of California at Berkeley’s BOINC project and
SETI@home project

As part of the University of California’s SETI@home project, thousands of
hours of CPU time are being logged, 24/7, to analyze data gathered in the
search for extraterrestrial life. And the work’s being done by a massive
supercomputer, not based in a silo in Wyoming but in a network of home
computers all over the world, where volunteers are crunching the numbers and
forming a worldwide community of Citizen Scientists. In this interview, meet
the project’s director, David Anderson, who talks about SETI@home and other
projects that now reside under the umbrella of the Berkeley Open
Infrastructure for Network Computing (yep, BOINC). Learn how BOINC’s staff
of two navigates issues like security and project management to push the
limits of both distributed computing and Open Source computing to
intergalactic heights.
