What's Your Responsibility Around Data Security as a Business Owner?

This is a Podcast I did for EnterpriseLeadership.org
that I particularly liked. It got me thinking about every business person’s
responsibility for what data they collect from clients, how they protect it
and how it gets used.  These are critical issues for all of us to give
careful thought to.

CAN WE SPEAK PRIVATELY?: Podcast interview with Dr. Ramon
Barquin, Ph.D., president and CEO of Barquin International

In a world where data about us is being gathered every day, we may wonder
if there’s such a thing as “balance.” Post-911, we want the security of
passenger screening by airlines and the government, but we may not want them
to read all about our traffic tickets or grades in school. We like the
convenience of buying groceries with a credit card, but not at the price of
grocery chains building algorithms based on our buying habits.

As founder of the Computer Ethics Institute and an expert in the field of
data management, Dr. Ramon Barquin does a lot of thinking about issues like
these. In this interview, he talks about data warehousing, individual
privacy versus public good, and he gets to the heart of the matter: When
personal information can be gathered about us in so many ways, and used (and
abused) in so many more ways, where is the ethical line in the sand?
