To hear him tell it, Kevin Werbach has been interested in all things technological, from his days as an attorney at the FCC, where he focused on the intersection of business, technology, law, and public policy, to his most recent successes with the Supernova conferences, where professionals from business, government, academia, the military and more meet to discuss how new technologies affect business and society.
As technology has moved from being a curiosity for techies - as was, say, email in its early days - it becomes a greater issue for corporations and government, according to Werbach. And the new Internet technologies such as WIKI and IM will necessarily erode the control that corporations have tried to maintain over shaping information. But instead of bemoaning this fact, business should be asking how it can leverage the power of these new technologies to unleash their own employees’ creative capital. And the technologies are themselves becoming so ubiquitous among the ranks of ordinary Internet users, Werbach adds, that companies won’t need to take on much risk to use them.

Kevin Werbach is an Assistant Professor of Legal Studies at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. He is also the founder of the Supernova Group, a technology analysis and consulting firm. He advises companies and writes about emerging trends in communications and information technology. He organizes Supernova, a leading executive technology conference.
