Nokia released the N91 and said it has an integrated, 4GB hard disk and supports digital music formats including MP3, M4A, AAC and WMA. Well, that covers the gamut of most popular formats. Here is a photo of the phone that packs all these goodies in one amazing little device.
C|Net’s April 27th article provides the following details for the Nokia N91:
Additionally, the handset comes with a stereo headset with remote control. The N91, expected to ship by the end of the year, will also feature a 2-megapixel camera, e-mail support, a Web-browser and video-sharing capabilities, the device maker said.
The phone supports WCDMA, wireless local area networking and Bluetooth, and subscribers can shop at online music stores directly from the device, the company said. Users can synchronize the device with their computers via USB 2.0 and create and manage playlists that, in turn, can be shared with others via Bluetooth, e-mail or multimedia messaging.
So what is next? Well, for one thing there wasn’t any mention of RSS aggregators that you can load on this phone, but I’m sure someone will come up with a way to hack that – if not, then a competitor will just jump ahead with that feature. A number of Microsoft-compatiable SmartPhones already have a free RSS aggregator that periodically goes out and pulls down podcasts. The N91 has a wireless local network feature (WiFi) so you can at least manually drag MP3s over to the phone (or one would hope). Would love to see that all working properly.
Anyway, I’m sure this is the tip of the iceberg for new products in 2005 from all the cell phone manufacturers. Now, if only you could get higher transfer speeds. And that’s coming. I’m voting on Wimax for the long term, though, for broadband wireless.
