Passion and Podcasting Passion and Podcasting

About that "passion" quality I mentioned in my last article (see below) ... I want to add that you need passion, AND your delivery of that passion must be authentic. Finding your true, authentic self versus what you think you 'should be' is the real key to success and personal satisfaction. But, alas ... it's not easy.  There really isn't a script or magic 'how-to' guide. Though once you find it, you can't help but chuckle at how easy it is to be your real self.

Being genuine, being real is the quest we're all on, and podcasting is one way of practicing the art of bringing your true self forward. When you're not authentic, life has a way of letting you know, because you'll get that in your user feedback and lack of response.

You'll sense you're not authentic when you find yourself doing things over and over and they aren't really working, and you feel in the pit of your stomach that you're not really connecting with people around you well. You're forcing yourself.

Being passionate is more than just being juiced up with lots of energy.  At the Expo, I saw some people who were pumped up but just didn't 'feel' very authentic to me. They came up and gave away stickers or CDs, or would stand up to ask a question at a panel session then turn it into a plug, getting all caught up in the phrase "shamless promotion" and ... it's like you really aren't sure who this person is because they're so full of all the things they think they SHOULD be doing instead of learning how to be themselves.

So when you podcast, when you market, when you present yourself ... present the real you.  That's something to be passionate about.

Tom
